What Selfless and Accomplished Now Mean

When Geoff and I were first married, I knew I was making a commitment to be in a partnership that often required sacrifice and making selfless decisions because of my love for him and deep desire to create a strong marriage. I thought then that I knew what being selfless meant...then Mary-Michael came along and the word took on a whole new meaning. Our little bundle that we love so much relies on us for everything. It's sweet and scary at the same time! The last 2 weeks have been filled with several nights of little sleep, lots of feedings (due to a growth spurt according to the doc...she did gain half a pound in 6 days), several trips to the doctor for jaundice, conjunctivitis and regular check-ups and many moments of gratefulness for being able to be parents to a precious little girl.

And since I've been on maternity leave, which I thought might have some dull moments (what was I thinking!), my idea of an accomplished day has changed drastically. Now I am grateful to get a shower in, a load of laundry in the washing machine and a few moments to talk to my husband.

Here are a few pics from the last 2 weeks.

Sporting my cloth diapers!

Momma and Daddy's first date night (since my arrival).

Hanging out with Mimi so that Momma and Daddy could go out.

Meeting my cousin Layne and Aunt Amy at the ballfield.

Meeting my Aunt Keesha for the first time (Aunt Keesha and Uncle Brian came to cook Momma and Daddy a yummy lunch).

Hanging with Poppy at Virginia House (where Momma and Daddy got married).

Enjoying a beer with Daddy.

Rocking with Grandma on the front porch.

Great Nana, Great Aunt Diane and Momma admiring me.

  1. How exciting for you all that you got out only two weeks after she arrived! BIG ACCOMPLISHMENT! :) You all look great, and kudos for you for nursing. I ran into every challenge there is but kept at it until Josh was 13 months. I can't believe that we'll be there right with you - stumbling to the changing table and falling asleep feeding - in just a few weeks. So happy to hear you all are embracing the journey. All the best!
